  • Now this...

  • Now this too…

  • Well I am 4-5 years older than you.

  • Thinly disguised…

  • I don’t get this one.

It's the cart and the corral that I don't get.

  • The corral is just the storage area assigned by the grocery outlet for their carts which are a few hundred dollars each new, apparently. That's my take, anyway.

  • Ok, time for a good one.

  • Now this....

  • Hmmmmm............

  • Oh, I get it.

  • To amplify on SZ's response, a cart corral is the area where shopping carts for retail outlets are stored. Usually, there is such an area at the entrance for incoming shoppers to grab. These can be inside or outside of the store. Often, there are also spaces in the parking lot for shoppers to return carts after they have transferred their purchases into their vehicles. Often these conveniences are ignored and busy shoppers just abandon their now empty cart often taking up a parking space. Being the kind of guy I am, I am pretty diligent about returning an empty cart to the cart corral. Also, being the kind of guy I am, if I see somebody waiting for my parking space, I take guilty pleasure in walking my now empty cart to a cart corral before returning to my car. This is particularly fun at Costco. Nine times out of ten there is an empty space four or five spots past mine. However, that would mean that those people would have to walk an extra 30 feet to the store entrance.

I also like to walk down the wrong parking lot aisle when returning to my car to see, if somebody will slow down his vehicle to my walking speed figuring they could then wait for my spot. Then I cut over two lanes to where my car is parked.

I still think there is more to that comic. I've known what you guys are saying. It just doesn't jive in my mind as being funny.

    However, this is.

  • Actually, the virtue signally of returning the cart against the cardinal sin of murder is really not a bad joke.

  • Way to go....

  • Yes, I could have guessed that.

  • Love it.

  • Now these…

  • I never knew that....

  • Pretty bad pun. ;)

  • I hadn't yet had my second cup of coffee.

  • It's after lunch now.

  • I'm planning on a Costco run, today.

  • We are no longer members at Costco. We found that the lots were generally too large, there is no wine sold at most Canadian outlets, and the clientele leaves a bit to be desired - unless you like pajama parties with fat or unshaven people. Now the people themselves are fine, just their sartorial splendor is lacking. Also, people seem edgy in the parking lots and during cashiering. But I admit there are often ad hoc sales on things like furniture, computers, etc. that attract my attention.

  • Wow, definitely a different environment in your Costcos.

The Costcos down here seem to attract, pretty much, a middle-class clientele. In fact, it also attracts a fair number of small business owners stocking up on supplies--cleaning, bathroom, kitchen.

One thing that is particularly irritating about my local Costco is the crowd around the free samples stations. These stations are generally at the intersection of aisle. People actually wait for the server to put out the samples. As a result, traffic in four directions is blocked. Then, they will grab multiple samples so that everybody in their family gets some. For this reason, I avoid Costco after about 2:30 pm on weekdays, because I'm pretty sure that parents pick up their kids at school and, then, go to Costco for after school snacks. BTW, the primo time to visit my Costco is about 1:00 pm. I'm not sure why, but that is what I have found. As long as it works, I am not going to question it.
