WORMS Recent Rides 2005

Colonial Beach Ride on Labor Day Weekend, September 3rd, 2005

Who did the ride: Gary / Kathy, Allen / Sandra

The weather was perfect for this ride, mid-80's and low humidity. We met around 10AM at Gary and Kathy's house, then we decided to ride to Colonial Beach, rather than do the Charlottesville / Blue Ridge Mountains ride. We'll do that later in the season, maybe when the fall colors are out. Anyway, before we rode down to Colonial Beach (on the coast, south of Dahlgren, VA), we just had to go see the BMW motorcycle that Gary has been thinking about non-stop over the past 6 months. They didn't have a rider available, but we discussed price, options, and paint schemes. Kathy really wants a black bike. They don't make a black one for 2005. We don't know what colors will be offed for 2006 yet, and those bikes are still another month away from coming to market. In fact, the new bike Gary wants probably won't come out until next spring. Gary might as well get a 2005 model, don't you agree? After the Fredericksburg BMW dealer visit, we rode down Route 3 to Route 205, which took us to Colonial Beach. We ate a fine seafoood lunch on the beach, and did a little walk along the boardwalk too. You might see some funny pictures below. The way back took us up 218, south of Dahlgren, and we joined up with a Christian riders group of bikes. It was fun riding with a larger group. We need more WORMS members to join our rides to get that feeling back again. After crossing Highway 301, we joined 206 and then 218 again to make it back to Gary's and Kathy's house. Then Sandra and Allen carried on down 218, and onto Route 17 over Interstate 95. We looked at the scenic map earlier, and Sandra led us up Route 616 to 806 to Route 28. This was probably the nicest road we have been on in quite a while. All the WORMS must try Route 616!!! Coming up Route 28, we stopped at Jamie's General Bean for a nice roast beef sandwich and americano. The final leg took us down Clifton road to Burke Lake Road. That led to the Fairfax County Parkway (7100), and home for Sandra and Allen. A full day ride, and worth every minute of it!
