The WORMS just had to get out for another weekend ride - the weather was great and we were itchin' to get on those Harley's! We had a new WORMS member come along for his first WORMS ride. Everybody say welcome to Steve! He is married to one of Jim's sisters, and he lives just south-east of Manassas in Dumfries, VA. Steve bought a used Suzuki Intruder last fall and if things go according to plan, he'll get some miles in the Suzuki saddle and then consider another bike down the road. Look for Steve's picture at the top of our website. Anyway, we had Jim, Steve, Stuart, Sandra and Allen on this ride to Harper's Ferry, WV. Mike was supposed to join us but his battery died so he spent the day getting that replaced instead. The rest of us met at Jireh Bakery Cafe around 10 AM and then headed out down Route 29 (west) to Route 234 where we turned north. Once we reached Gum Springs we took that to Route 50, then that to Route 15 north and up to Route 7 near Leesburg. Coming out of Leesburg going west, we took Route 9 and then Harper's Ferry Road up to Harper's Ferry. The ride back was mostly the same since these roads were very nice.
The wine tasting was a lucky event for the WORMS because it was unexpected at Harper's Ferry and it was free! Allen ended up buying one bottle of a 2010 Merlot from Argentina because it tasted pretty good. There were lots of wineries along the Route 9 roadway so we may return to this area again for some real wine tastings. We did enjoy a beer at the Hanna's Train Depot restaurant but the food could have been a bit more tasty. No matter - we didn't come to Harper's Ferry just for the cuisine. The sights were something to behold and if you read the signs, you'll understand the significance of this location during the Civil War.
