WORMS Rides, 2010

2nd Annual Central Virginia Motorcycle EXPO Ride on May 22nd 2010

The WORMS (Mike, Hal and Allen) met at East Coast Harley-Davidson around 0930 Saturday morning to start this ride. The boys just had to check out some bikes in the dealership - like a slightly used V-ROD that Hal was very interested in. Allen noticed the Eddie Trotta special customization on a H-D Street Glide, and it had an alligator seat! Mike was drooling over a special tour bike that listed for $40K. But enough of that, we were just starting our ride!

We were heading down towards Orange VA to Waugh H-D and the main event. We wanted to ride River Road again (in Fredericksburg) so we turned off Route 1 after crossing the river (which one? Hell if I know) and we soon found River Road. It was lush and full of tight turns. In other words, a perfect biker road. And the weather? The temperature was perfect (mid-70's) but there was a threat of rain coming up in the afternoon. So the boys continued to Route 3 and then Route 20 (Constitution Highway) down to Orange and Waugh H-D.

There were a couple of hundred bikes there for the event and a few of us managed to spend a some bucks. The food was pretty bad this time however, and we had to pay for it. No matter - Mike and Allen would finish the ride at Hooters and enjoy some chicken wings later. For now, we ate a few hamburgers and checked out the bikes. Hal loved the new Honda chopper, Allen was excited about a tricked out V-Rod that pulled in and Mike was drooling over another Street Glide. Typical WORMS stuff I suppose. Anyway, we headed home around 1330 taking the back roads out of Waugh H-D and Hal peeled off in Catlet as we came up Route 28. Mike wanted to stop at Whitt's H-D to get his H-D Passport stamped (which he also did at Waugh H-D), and then the boys headed over to Hooters. We got home about 30 minutes ahead of the rain so the timing was most excellent. Check out our pictures!

MAG Church Block Party Ride on May 16th 2010

The WORMS took advantage of the excellent weather this weekend and did a short Sunday ride to Manassas to partake in the Manassas Assembly of God (MAG) Church block party. We met at our new meeting spot (Jireh Bakery Cafe in Centreville, where Jamie's General Bean used to be) but only a few members (Emmett, Claudia and Allen) managed to make this ride. Woody was busy studying for a certification, Mike was busy getting his son Kevin to and from his job and Hal was down in Richmond (but he was hoping to make it back in time for the event). The MAG church was putting on a pretty good party today, with free food and salvation while you wait (it was a long line, just like the food line). We had difficulty finding the place because Map quest was in error, as we found out riding around Manassas. Emmett saved the day by looking up the church in Google Maps on his cell phone and we soon found the place about 5 miles further down Route 28 than initially anticipated. It was a good time overall. Lots of people asked about Allen's chopper and for some reason everyone just wanted to touch it. The WORMS understand of course - motorcycles have a way of drawing crowds and we enjoyed the attention.

Checking Out the Old WORMS Meeting Spot on May 9th 2010

Most of the WORMS members that have been with us more than a year remember Jamie's General Bean - a coffee shop that closed over a year ago which was also our meeting spot near Routes 28 and 29. Well the place is finally open again, this time as Jireh Bakery Cafe. The address is 13848 Lee Highway in Centerville, VA. Allen stopped by on the chopper this fine Sunday morning and said hello to the new owner of the place, Sean Na. The food is excellent and the coffee is good, so Allen proposes that we make Jireh Bakery Cafe our new meeting spot for WORMS rides that are headed out west. As you can see below, Sean welcomes the WORMS and by the way, there is plenty of room upstairs for us to socialize while planning out the details of our rides.

Thanks Honey, Lets Ride to Hooters! on May 1st 2010

Sandra had called a junk service to come take our basement sofa away on Saturday, along with anything else we could part with. After living here in Springfield for about 19 years, you can imagine that we had plenty of stuff - but it was all packed away in our storage room! So her call was made on Thursday and that didn't leave much time to pull stuff out. Allen spent most of Saturday working like a dog (the cats were amused) but we got the job done. One sofa, two broken TV's, five tires, a rug shampoo machine, a double-bunk bed, and a few other things are now gone. So its only fair that Sandra said, "Let's go to Hooters for some chicken wings and beer!". In no time flat the happy couple were riding the fat boy through the back roads of Clifton and the wings were so good we ordered some butterflied shrimp to munch on while we watched the Kentucky Derby race on one of the TVs at Hooters. The ride back was nice too, and we arrived in plenty of time to see the sun set on a very nice day.
