Iron Butt Ride (1K Miles/24 Hrs) to Honor the REDWING 19 on May 16th-17th

The REDWING 19 Ride, started at Devil Dawg in Chantilly VA on the 16th of May and ended back at Devil Dawg after 1K miles in the early hours of 17 May. This was an Iron Butt Ride (IBR) but more importantly the ride is for 11 Navy Seals and 8 Aviators lost in Afghanistan (2005) in Operation REDWING. The ride raised money for the REDWING 19 kids education fund. Did you support this worthwhile project? The riders get a Iron Butt certificate for this 1036 mile all-in Virginia ride. Jimmie, Mike and Jim were there to represent the WORMS and the U.S. Military Vets Motorcycle Club. Tough? You bet. Completing the event - priceless! If you believe in this ride please consider a contribution to the cause. More IBR events will be found here.

Dogwood Ride / Blessing of the Bikes on April 26th

The WORMS combined our 1st annual Dogwood ride with the Big Daddy Leather "Blessing of the Bikes" event in Fredericksburg, VA on a fine Sunday morning/afternoon. We weren't sure which WORMS were going to make this ride as the list kept growing and shrinking on a daily basis during the week prior to the ride. As it turned out, Mike, and Sandra/Allen met at the East Coast Harley-Davidson in Dumfries VA at 0900 and then they had breakfast at Anitas on the way down Route 1 to Fredericksburg. Linda/Richard joined the "early WORMS" and arrived at the BDL event (Open Door Community Church in Fredericksburg) around 1100. About 2 hours later we were itching to ride so we took off ahead of most riders and rode sound on Route 218. We saw tons of Dogwood trees along the way. We then came back to Fredericksburg via Route 206 (Dahlgren Road) and Route 3. Our next stop was Hyperion Espresso in Fredericksburg and we cooled our heals with some lemonade, iced coffee and things of this nature. We weren't done yet however.

The return trip back up to Lorton/Springfield was going to take a little longer because we wanted to ride the back roads into Manassas. So we took Truslow Road (652) to Poplar Road (616) to Elk Run Road and that got us to Route 28. Linda/Richard and Mike peeled off on the Prince William Parkway while Sandra/Allen headed over to Clifton and took the back roads through there (Henderson Road being one) to Springfield. Funny thing though - we didn't take any pictures of the Dogwood trees we saw along the way. We must have seen over a hundred trees! So below are a few pictures of trees close to home - as in our back yard. Overall it was a hot but very enjoyable ride!

1st Annual Central Virginia Motorcycle Expo at Waugh Harley-Davidson on April 18th

It's April and the weather was just fine for Saturday the 18th. The WORMS (Jim, Sandra & Allen) rode down to Waugh H-D for their 1st Annual Central Virginia Motorcycle Expo that ran from 0800-1700. We met at our usual Starbucks in Clifton at 0800 Saturday morning, and at approximately 0830 we left to take the back roads through Catlet and ultimately Route 522 to Waugh H-D. We stayed at the Expo until 1230 and then took a different route home via Route 20 to Highway 3 to River Road and Route 1 in Fredericksburg. We soon left Route 1 however, as we turned west on Turslow to head back into Manassas on a very nice winding road that couldn't be much better. Coming back up to Catlet we found some traffic on Route 28 so we left that and headed east again on the back roads heading over to the Prince William Parkway - so we came home via Clifton.

While at Waugh H-D we sat on some bikes, checked out the latest T-shirts and related gear, and the ate some hamburgers at the HOG feeding bench. Waugh H-D now has an improved waiting room and better coffee so Sandra enjoyed a bit of the java while Jim and Allen threw back some sodas. We had a great time and a wonderful ride along the best back roads that Northern Virginia has to offer!
