So the day finally came. This all started back in April last year when Allen convinced the WORMS members (including his wife Sandra) that it was the right time to procure a 50th birthday gift. Setting the details aside (such as being 9 months early for the birthday present and a little thing about Sandra paying for the gift) Allen decided that a certain 2004 Pitbull Chopper was just what he needed to deal with his mid-life crisis. And so it was. But on the 27th of January 2009, the gift became legitimate! No longer would Allen have to explain why he had the chopper months prior to his birthday. No sir, it's official now.
Several WORMS members and family came over to help celebrate the occasion. Sandra threw a big party with ribs, chicken and all the fixings. There was beer and wine. We had a fun time and luckily the weather was pretty nice. Check out the pictures and you'll see some possible future WORMS riders.....
Most of our riders try to get out for at least one ride each month during the winter season. Some of us get out more often - say once a week! It's been extremely cold lately in Northern Virginia but today (24 Jan) it reached 40F so it was a good day for a ride. Rose & Jim did a short ride from their house to a nearby restaurant and Allen did another ride along the Potomac - like last weekend on the Fatboy but this time it was on the chopper! Pictures are below to give you an idea about how beautiful the river looks even in the cold winter of January.
The WORMS started off 2009 with a bang! Six of us (Rose, Jim, Mike, Kevin, Sandra, Allen) rode the Metro into Washington DC to see the 2009 International Motorcycle Show. We enjoyed a fine breakfast at the Silver Diner near the Dunn Loring Metro station and after the show we had a "lunch/dinner" at the RFD beer hall. The food was good and the beer was even better. Would you believe we tried a beer with seaweed made in Scotland? Yep - the WORMS are an adventurous group. Oh the show was good too. We saw the latest bikes from all the major vendors and there were some custom bikes on display. Remember Hardcore Choppers? They had a booth at the show and a spokesperson said they will be having another bike show this year. So get your bike dressed up with some more chrome while it's too cold to ride.
