WORMS Rides, 2008

Help Your Buddy Ride, December 14th, 2008

It was above freezing this fine Sunday morning and Woody needed a way to get over to Whitt's Harley-Davidson to pick up his 2003 Sportster from the service department. When Allen happened to call Woody the prior day to inquire about a motorcycle ride, it was simply destiny that the boys would be out riding today. No pictures this time but it was an official WORMS ride because after Woody had his bike, Woody and Allen rode further south of Manassas and then over to Clifton for perhaps an hour ride. The temperature was around 45-48 degrees F but there was a cold wind blowing too so it could have been warmer! Anyway, we hope all the WORMS are getting their bikes out on the road when the weather permits so we don't forget how to ride.

Fox Hunt on Snickerville Turnpike, November 1st, 2008

Saturday, the first day of a new month, was just beautiful. If you own a motorcycle and you were not out riding it - shame on you. This day was made for riding the back roads of Northern Virginia. Oh wait a minute. We all have our priorities after all. Some folks had chores to do like working in the garden or washing the family car. Anyway, Allen got out for a 100 mile ride to enjoy Snickerville Turnpike one last time before it gets too cold. Who would have thought there was a fox hunt going on? Allen came around a corner and there was a lead pickup truck with it's flashers going, followed by horses and perhaps 50 beagles. Allen pulled over and shut down the Harley so the horses wouldn't be spooked. It was an awesome sight to see them trot on by. In fact it was near the end of the hunt. They did catch one fox.

Great Falls Virginia Ride on October 26th, 2008

Sandra and Allen enjoyed a fine Sunday afternoon by riding up to Great Falls along the George Washington Parkway. It was mid-60's weather and clear skies, so we just had to get out on the Fatboy. The ride along Route 193 was the best part and it's very much like Route 211. We walked around Great Falls Park for a bit and enjoyed looking at the people canoeing and climbing down the clifts in the park. We came back along the road that goes past Wolf Trap, so we took many back roads on this ride. It was an enjoyable afternoon!

Fall Colors Ride on October 12th, 2008

The WORMS did our fall colors ride on 12 October. We met at our official Starbucks in Clifton at 0900 and then left at approximately 0930 headed west on Route 29 towards Warrenton. After we got through Warrenton, we picked up Route 211 and rode towards Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive. Typically we have headed south at this point, but this time we turned right to head North on Skyline Drive. We stayed on Skyline Drive until we arrived in Front Royal, a good place to grab some chicken wings at the local KFC. Leaving Front Royal behind, we headed east on Route 55 (parallel to I-66) until we reached Route 29 again in the Haymarket area. A quick ride through Bull Run park and into Clifton (where we turned north to avoid "Clifton Days" because the streets were closed) brought us to Popes Head road and finally the Springfield Parkway and home. It was a beautiful day for a ride. The fall colors have not peaked yet but we did see an excellent assortment of reds, oranges, and yellow leaves. No complaints from the WORMS that were able to make this ride - Mike, Woody, Sandra and Allen.

Ride to Stafford Regional Airport for the Wings, Wheels and Ducks event on October 5th, 2008

The WORMS decided it was time to "celebrate October" so the Springfield area clan met at our standard Starbucks location (Starbucks in the Colonnade Mall at Union Mill) in the late morning after it warmed up a bit. We left there after eating some tasty snacks with delicious coffee & tea, and headed down through Manassas to the Stafford Airport for their "Wings, Wheels, Ducks" event.

We ate a few slices of pizza for lunch down there at the airport and enjoyed a good part of the afternoon checking out the car, truck, and er....hmm....MOTORCYCLE SHOW. There were model airplanes too - these were so cool to watch as they took off and landed. Since the ride down was just beautiful, we elected to ride back the same way and ended up eating dinner at Moe's in Centreville - not that far from the old Jamie's General Bean location that we previously used as our meeting place. Most of us arrived home before it was dark and what a nice day it was for a ride!
