The WORMS (well, it was actually only Allen on his chopper this time) worked in close coordination with the gang at Patriot Harley-Davidson (Ok, it was a Patriot HOG organized ride) to ride over to the town of Manassas to see the car show near the Manassas airport on Saturday evening. The weather was hot and humid - perfect for riding without a windshield so the wind blast keeps you sort of cool. Anyway the route selected by the road captain was through the back roads of Clifton and the WORMS know these roads well. We arrived safe and sound with about an hour to see the cars before most of the group rode to a Mexican restaurant for a fine meal. Allen rode home to a special meal prepared by Sandra. Hey, he's got to save money to keep making the payments on the chopper!
Rose, Jim and Allen did a 3-bike WORMS ride on a fine Sunday morning - a nice way to cap off a great holiday weekend. There was a threat of rain throughout the day but WORMS like rain, don't they? What we really don't like is the early bird. Anyway, we met at our new meeting place - the Starbucks at Union Mill Road in Clifton. The start time was 11AM so you know that Rose got to sleep in. Rather than do the usual ride up Snickersville Turnpike with the return on Blue Ridge Mountain Road, we did the opposite - riding further along Route 50, past Snickersville Turnpike, and just past Upperville is where Blue Ridge Mountain Road reaches Route 50. This was quite a bit different compared to riding the other direction. It was a little cool again on this side of the mountain, but just about perfect coming back along Snickersville Turnpike. Also, the bridge has finally been completed on Snickersville Turnpike so there are no more detours. We dined afterward at the Glory Grill on Route 50 before returning home to do our chores. Life is good if you take time to ride your bike!
By the way, Allen forgot his camera on this ride so there are no pictures to share. Oh well. You can always go back to previous years and see those pictures taken on Snickersville Turnpike. In case you're wondering about the rain, there basically wasn't any on this ride. A few sprinkles were encountered while in route to our meeting location, but they were barely enough to get the windscreen wet. We lucked out again.
All Harley riders were politely requested to ride their bike on the last Monday in June to reach a goal of one million miles ridden in a single day. The WORMS did their part with several riders risking the evening thunderstorm and traffic to support the cause. See the certificate below for what you'll earn once your record your miles at the Harleys Owners Group web site. If you can register your miles and obtain the certificate, print it to a PDF file or just take a screen snap and send the image to Allen - who will put the image on our web site for all to see! What could be easier?
What dad can resist an offer from his family to take some pictures of him riding his new chopper? Better yet, what dad might suggest something such as this for his Father's Day gift? That dad would be Allen of course! It was a beautiful day and since there was no work to be done on this fine Sunday, Allen went for a little ride up the George Washington Parkway - with Sandra driving the Pontiac Vibe and the boys hanging out the windows - passing the camera back and forth. Chris and Tom were both hoping to get that one shot that you might remember in the Wild Hogs movie - you know, the one where the bugs hit the guys in the face, followed by a bird hitting the other guy! That didn't happen today. The photo shoot went well and here are some pictures to prove it....
