The Waugh Enterprises 16th Annual Harley-Davidson Big Damn Bike Show was the largest event Waugh has hosted, at least as far as the WORMS are concerned. There were so many people there that we had difficulty just getting around. Rose and Jim arrived early and left some brochures for Mountainfest on the table near all the Nightster's. Sandra and Allen arrived around 1PM (after Sandra donated blood) and stayed until they made the first selection of contestants for the two Sportster bikes they were giving way. Woody wasn't able to make it due to problems at work that he had to deal with.
Sandra and Allen left as clouds were building in the north, and by the time they arrived at Route 522 and Route 29, it started to sprinkle (with a wee little bit of lightening). They put on the top portions of their raincoats and two minutes later it was pouring and lightening and pouring some more. The road was very oily and foamy - meaning it was probably slick too. Allen took it easy but kept on riding - they had a ballet to attend this night at The Kennedy Center! The rain soon subsided and the remainder of the ride was wet but not a downpour. Everyone arrived home safe and sound. It was a fun ride overall.
At the last minute (well, on the same day I suppose) several WORMS decided to meet over at the new Austin Grille in Centreville for their grand opening event on Sunday. Even though there is a possibility of thunderstorms later in the evening, the WORMS are fearless (after last night that is) and will ride anywhere. Mike, Rose, Jim, Sandra, and Allen met at 4PM and enjoyed some fine Tex-Mex food and good times talking about raising kids and things of this nature. Sandra & Allen arrived in the Smart Car (the Fatboy is having transmission problems) but Rose rode her bike so we had 3 bikes supporting this event.
Several of us entered the 94.7 radio station contest for 2 tickets to see Tom Petty at 7PM the same evening. Wouldn't you know it - Mike won the 2 tickets! He gave them to Rose and Jim, and before you could say "free falling" they were headed for their bikes to go see Tom Petty at the Nissan Pavilion. Thanks to Mike for giving the tickets away! Jim paid his meal ticket so that was considered a fair deal for both parties. Good times!
Camille's Bike Night was a blast on 07 June. Rose and Jim rode over to Allen and Sandra's place in Springfield, then the tree rode down Route 1 to Camille's (near I-95 and Route 3 in Central Park. On the way we stopped at East Coast Harley-Davidson to drop off some flyer's for the upcoming Mountainfest event in West Virginia. It was hot today and we enjoyed the cool breeze once we left some traffic behind after Quantico. At Camille's we had dinner in the air-conditioned restaurant and then we sat outside to enjoy the blues music and chat with other bikers.
We arrived around 1830, just as the band was warming up. We left at about 2015, and we elected to take I-95 back up to Springfield / Alexandria because Rickey said (via cell phone) that there was a nasty lightening storm in Culpepper. He wasn't kidding! As we rode up I-95 the lightening became quite intense, but there were only a few raindrops. We were riding fast too - around 75 MPH for a good part of it. Allen peeled off at the Lorton exit and made it home with 5 minutes to spare before the skies opened up and it just poured like crazy. Rose and Jim made it home before the rain hit too. It was simply amazing how close we cut the return. The WORMS had a great time and it's always better to avoid the monster rain storms too.
