The Harley-Davidson Factory Tour in York Pennsylvania was a fantastic ride! We made arrangements to ride up to the York area on August 30th (Thursday) during the afternoon. Starting at Jamie's General Bean around 12PM (maybe closer to 1PM) Rose, Jim, Sandra, and Allen headed up Route 28, went past the place where Allen works, then took Route 50 over to I-15 - all the way up to Gettysburg PA. After stopping by Battlefield Harley-Davidson for a few items and a once-in-a-lifetime chance meeting with friends of Sandra & Allen from last year's UK vacation, we rode down Route 30 to the Past Purrfect Bed & Breakfast Inn. The innkeepers convinced us to bring a bottle of wine to the nice Italian restaurant that we met Jo Post at (and her daughter with some friends). Woody called and said that he and Leslie were coming up after all even though his bike was still in the shop with an ignition issue - and then he arrived about 5 minutes later! We thought they were hours away but they were basically calling us from the B&B. Our night at the Past-Purrfect Bed and Breakfast Inn was very relaxing (due to the wine perhaps?) and everyone played with their big Maine Coon kitty. They only had 4 rooms available, and the WORMS took 3 of them for our overnight stay in York.
Friday morning we had a nice breakfast and then packed up our stuff so we could ride over to the H-D factory and get our tour tickets. We ended up on the 0915 tour, and what a great tour it was. They give you a 10-minute video to familiarize you with the company history and then you follow the tour guide on a 45-minute tour of the factory as parts were being made / assembled. It was truly amazing to see all the robots picking up parts, grinding others, and never asking for coffee breaks. All the people we saw there looked like they enjoyed their jobs too.
After the tour we traced our steps back down Route 30 to Gettysburg, but we stopped in a biker leather shop to pick up some cool sunglasses and things of this nature. Lunch was found at a Ruby Tuesday restaurant, and then we headed back down I-15 to see what kind of traffic there was back in old Fairfax VA. We found some all right, but it wasn't too bad. Jim needed to stop at Patriot H-D on Route 50 to get a part, so we stopped there before heading home. Guess who we ran into? Gary and Beth were there looking at bikes again. Beth keeps sitting on those new Nightsters. Anyway, we got out without spending too much and said our goodbye's for the day. Another successful WORMS ride and some tired riders.
