WORMS Rides, 2007

Waugh H-D Bluegrass & BBQ August 18th

Well, today turned out better than we could have imagined. The weather was perfect - maybe a little windy, but no humidity and in the upper 70's to low 80's. Sandra and Allen arrived at Waugh H-D around 11:45 AM, after coming down the backroads of Clifton and Manassas. Allen had some hot dogs, Sandra ate the pork sandwich, and we walked around for a bit looking at all the cool bikes. Inside we found new 2008 models with the 105 year anniversary colors. Mountainfest 2007 Ride - July 27th thru 29th

The WORMS had three bikes turn out for this big event - Rose on her Yamaha V-Star, Jim on his Harley Heritage Softail Classic, and Sandra/Allen on their Harley Fat Boy. We all met at Jamie's General Bean early Friday morning, 'cause this was gonna be a very long ride. Jamie came out to wish us well (she was hoping to make it out there the following day but we didn't meet up with her) and the next thing you knew we were on our way down I-66 - heading for Winchester, VA. We got onto Route 50 in Winchester, as this would be our main road for the remainder of the ride out to Morgantown, West Virginia. The rain caught up with us soon after crossing the border in WV - in fact it was at Mt. Storm! It rained so hard for a few hours that it was almost crazy to keep going. But we had our rain suits on so we kept on moving, learning how to clear the windshields off with a glove every few minutes just so we could see the taillight in front of us. We stopped by Rose and Jim's houses in West Union, WV to see the progress they've made renovating the main house. The bigger house that faces the street (it was built in 1903) will be a B&B in about 5 years if everything goes well. By 8PM (yep - 12 hours from our start time) we rolled into Morgantown and our Comfort Inn hotel for our stay at the Mountainfest event.

After a few beers to shake off the pain...er....cold, we retired to our rooms to find heating pads, thermal wraps, and anything related to pain medication. Allen even tried brushing his teeth with Benadryll to see if that would help, but most folks think he mistook that tube for the tooth paste due to the beer consumption. Anyway, we met up with friends and relatives of Rose and Jim the next morning and off we went to celebrate Mountainfest in style. We rode in the parade, went to a vintage motorcycle display at the Waterfront Place hotel, and then rode to Waterfront Park to see vendor displays and drink some more beer. We enjoyed listening to Blue Oyster Cult play some new and old songs (remember Godzilla?), but soon we had to get moving again to find some good food downtown before finishing the evening with a beautiful fireworks display

The ride home on Sunday was very nice too, as we took I-68 and the northern route back through Maryland before coming down 522 and eventually ending back up on Route 50. The rain found us again during the final 30 minutes of riding, but who cares? It couldn't dampen our spirits after such a great weekend!
