The WORMS have another new recruit joining our ranks. Les Ferguson, who works for Boeing (formerly with Hughes Aircraft Co.) was out here for some work and found a day he could rent a Harley-Davidson Road King from Eagle Rider in Chantilly. We met Les at our favorite watering hole (Jamie's General Bean) and we basically did an eight-hour ride up Snickerville Turnpike to Blue Ridge Road to Route 340 to Skyline Drive to Route 211 and finally Route 29. It was only a few hundred miles of riding, but we stopped for lunch and took a few rest stops for pictures and some espresso. The weather was beautiful, almost perfect!
Les heads back to California later this week, but we might see him again this coming October. Perhaps another ride along Skyline Drive during the fall colors is a possibility then. Stay tuned...
The WORMS wanted to show Woodys' sister Leslie (our new WORMS recruit) what good folks we are by helping her get some break-in miles on her new Harley-Davidson Nightster motorcycle. This is the bike that Sandra and Allen took some pictures of at the Waugh H-D Big Damn Bike Show a few weeks ago. We met at Jamie's General Bean in Chantilly at 0900, and by 0945 we are left for Hyperion Espresso in Fredericksburg via the back roads of Manassas. Woody, Leslie, Sandra and Allen rode down to Hyperion Espresso and met Kathy and Gary at precisely the right time - we all parked together across the street.
There wasn't much traffic this 4th of July and the weather was just great! We even had a choice of tables at Hyperion Espresso, so we chose one outside as you can see in our picture of the month at the bottom of this page!
A wonderful day was had by all of those who got out on their motorcycles this Saturday. The weather was in the upper 70's to low 80's, and it wasn't too humid. In short - it was perfect weather. Sandra and Allen rode down to Waugh along the backroads and didn't arrive until 3 hours had passed. They saw Mike and Kevin, the father / son group that joined with us at Rolling Thunder last month. Two sportsters were given away and we didn't win either one, but there were so many people there! Our guess is over one thousand.
Woody surprised the group with another bike purchase - or rather it's his sister buying a brand new Nightster in blue suede/black. They put a deposit down over the phone early Saturday morning before anyone else could get their hands on it. Sandra and Allen were granted exclusive access to the bike for a brief picture section, so check out those pictures below. There were lots of show bikes, the police demonstration team, and even good food to eat. Sandra got a new half-helmet which she wore on the way to Lake Anna and then Gary & Kathy's house near Fredericksburg.
Speaking of Fredericksburg, the gang rested for about 45 minutes at Kathy's house before riding over to Camille's for Bike Night. There was a live band there and they sounded pretty good. They played for donations, so the WORMS stepped up to the plate by dropping some bills in their pot. Check out the pictures from Camille's below.
