Skyline Drive Ride October 14th

The WORMS did a ride through the Shenandoah National Park area along Skyline Drive on Saturday, October 14th. We met at Hyperion Espresso approximately 0945 in Fredericksburg at Hyperion Espresso, but it was so nice and comfy that we couldn't leave until 1115. Actually it was bloody cold this morning! It was 32.9F when Sandra / Allen left Springfield. It was headed towards the low 60's for the afternoon. At least it was in the mid-50's when we left Hyperion Espresso. Gary / Kathy departed to attend a BMW Octoberfest celebration, and Woody had committed to going over to Maryland to help his son-in-law with a home project. That left Sandra / Allen to represent the WORMS on Skyline Drive.

Sandra / Allen headed over to Waugh Harley-Davidson and spent maybe 45 minutes seeing the sites at the "Big Damn Anniversary: Chrome" event. They departed on Route 20 and headed south to Route 250 and Charlottesville. They came out of Charlottesville on Route 250 and missed the turn where it becomes Route 240 near a town called Crozet. Facing a choice of either Route 29 or I-64, Sandra had Allen take I-64 and then the next exit. Fortunately they made a good turn, and soon found Route 250 again. They found Crozet and the pizza restaurant there (Crozet Pizza at 5794 Three Notched Road Crozet, VA 22932), which has been around since 1978. They stopped to eat lunch at Crozet Pizza.

Back on the road again, they headed south out of town to Skyline Drive, near Route 250 and Waynesboro. Once again Allen missed an exit and had to double back, but hey - the sign post was blocked by some branches! It cost $10 at the entrance gate, but the ride along Skyline Drive (going north) was worth it. The posted speed limit was in the back of our minds, but we were able to maintain 45 MPH for most of the ride up Skyline Drive, not counting the many stops to view the sights. They took the 211 exit near Sperryville, and headed towards Warrenton. At that point it was about 1700 and basically dark. Stopping for gas and some more riding meant they got home just before 1800.

Here's a few pictures from the Skyline Drive Ride on October 14th:

Nothing like a good latte to make your day!

Have you ever seen a more beautiful tree? We had to double-back to take pictures of this one!
