WORMS Recent Rides 2006

Afternoon Ride to Middleburg, Upperville, and Front Royal VA, April 28th 2006

Woody and Allen took off from work around 1PM on Friday, since the weather was so nice and all. We rode down Route 50 to get away from traffic, and then we just rode through the very pretty towns of Middleburg and Upperville before we turned south down Red Gate Road which becomes Milldale Road and then Morgan Ford Road. It's on this road that we crossed Shenandoah River via a very low to the water one-lane bridge, which you see in the pictures below. We then proceeded through back roads to the outskirts of Front Royal, and headed back home via 522 to Route 29.

The best road of the day had to have been Red Gate Road. The road was a series of rolling hills, with farmland on both sides and a very smooth surface. Definately worth riding this road again! The other pictures were taken when we pulled over on Red Gate Road.

Spring Day Ride to Tappahannock VA, April 23rd 2006

Sandra and Allen arrived at Kathy and Gary's house just before 10AM. After a little socializing, we hit the road and took Route 2 south to Sparta Road (Route 721). We followed this for a bit and then took Lloyd's Road to Route 17, basically arriving in Tappahannock. All morning it was foggy and in the low 50's, so it was a chilly ride for everyone. After lunch (and a brief sprinkle on the bikes while we watched them from our table) we gassed up and the sun was out. Mr. Sun poked his head out a few times on the ride down, but now it was out for good. The sky was blue with a few while clouds here and there. We rode back up to Kathy and Gary's place to rest a bit before Sandra and Allen headed out on Route 218 / 17, and across I-95. Sandra and Allen took Route 616 to 806, which met Route 28 - the only place traffic was actually noticed! One stop at a Starbucks and a brief talk with some other bikers while sipping our coffee drinks outside, and they headed out to Woody's neck of the woods for a ride down Pope's Head Road and home to Springfield. Mileage for Sandra and Allen was 250 miles (arriving home at 7PM). Kathy and Gary did about 120 miles. Kathy felt pretty good during the ride, so more rides are coming up for the WORMS. Stay tuned to the planning section of our web page.
